The first Rich Energy promoted fight night played out at the iconic York Hall, Bethnal Green on Friday — and it delivered. A full card sanctioned by the British & Irish Boxing Authority, five fights of genuine action, and a heavyweight main event that silenced anyone who’d called it a mismatch.
Main event — Hunter vs Frankham
American #1 and World #10 heavyweight Michael ‘The Bounty’ Hunter (24-1-2) headlined against Wisbech’s unbeaten Eli ‘Fat Boy’ Frankham (9-0-0). Anyone who turned up expecting a one-sided night got something else.
The first two rounds were so close the judges couldn’t agree on them. Frankham started to wrestle control in the third. Going into the fourth he looked the stronger man.
Then, in the final seconds of round four, Hunter cornered him on the ropes and let go — a sensational left hook followed by a massive right uppercut. Frankham went down hard. Referee Roger Barnor waved it off as the bell rang. TKO Hunter — but a fight that raised the stock of both men.
A gladiatorial main event, in a building that knows what great nights look like.
Undercard
Lee McAllister vs Theophilus Tetteh — Super Middleweight. Six-time, five-division World Champion Lee ‘Aberdeen Assassin’ McAllister (52-3-0) put a clinic on the younger Ghanaian Theophilus Tetteh (19-10-2). Cunning ring-craft, unanimous decision, most judges scoring it 60-54. Class is permanent.
Darren Traynor vs Sagar Chand — Super Lightweight. All-action from the first bell. Sagar Chand (6-1-0) put veteran Darren ‘Trayn Wreck’ Traynor (16-4-0) on the canvas in the first round and took the opening three rounds clearly. Traynor fought his way back into rounds four and five. Chand reasserted himself in the sixth and took a well-earned unanimous decision (53-60, 55-58, 55-58).
Charley Leigh Brown vs Rajwant Kaur — Super Lightweight. Newly crowned Professional Boxing Council International Silver Champion Charley Leigh Brown (5-0-0) faced relentless inside pressure from Rajwant Kaur (5-8-0). Brown used the reach, neutralised the forward momentum, and took virtually every round (60-55, 59-55, 59-55).
George Juby vs Sunil Kumar — Middleweight. The opener, and an all-out war. George Juby (1-0-0) and the tough Sunil Kumar (4-10-0) traded for four sensational rounds, with the stylish Juby edging it 40-36 on every scorecard. Some opening bouts are warm-ups. This one wasn’t.
And the next one
We’re a drinks brand that has worked with champions in boxing since 2015 — Gennady Golovkin, Lucas Browne, Nick Blackwell, Shannon Briggs. Promoting our own card is a different proposition and we’re glad we took the step.
Thanks to the team at York Hall, to BIBA for sanctioning, to Geezers Boxing for the gloves, to Player+ for the broadcast, and to everyone who came out and made the noise.
More Rich Energy fight nights to come. We’ll announce the next one when there’s something proper to announce.
